Transcript:

My name is Elizabeth Ure and I’m the Qld Greens candidate for the Southern Downs. I’ve lived in Warwick for many years and grew up in Toowoomba and Tannymorel.

I made the decision to stand for The Greens because of their unwavering adherence and willingness to fight for the principles of fairness, sustainability and ethics.

The Greens and I will fight for a fair society where rural communities have access to affordable local services. Forty percent of us here on the Southern Downs are classified as ‘most disadvantaged’. We don’t want hand outs but we do need services and opportunities that will allow us to help ourselves.

The Greens and I will fight for our communities to be economically and environmentally sustainable. Brisbane might think the only value we have is what’s in the ground (our coal and gas deposits) but as individuals, farmers, communities and businesses, our worth is so much more.

Our region is home to an astonishing number of intelligent, committed, hard-working and creative people. We need to work together to develop new strategies to build a stronger local economy and to create local jobs.

And finally, ethics. The Greens and I will fight for an inclusive democracy. I promise to always listen and consult with the community, to be open and transparent in my duties and always put my community before politics.

So please consider voting for the principles of fairness, sustainability and ethics. Southern Downs needs new ideas, new energy and new leadership.
